Terry County’s semiarid climate brings steady high winds and sharp temperature swings, with severe thunderstorms common from March through September and summer highs regularly topping 100 degrees. That wind stress is a constant factor in new plant establishment and irrigation scheduling, and it shows up fastest on newly installed sod and young trees still building the root systems they need to hold moisture on their own.
